How long have you been a member of FVA?: I’ve been a member of FVA for at least 12 years

Why did you join FVA? Or What would you like to get out of FVA?: A couple reasons why I decided to join FVA, in addition to encouraging my staff to join include: 1) Recommendation from University Hospital colleagues and 2) I’m a strong advocate of networking and learning from others in your profession.

What is your current occupation? Tell us about your organization and/or occupation: I’m currently the Manager of Volunteers Services and Community Relations with University Hospitals Portage Medical Center. UH Portage Medical Center is a 302 licensed-bed progressive hospital serving the residents of Portage County in Ravenna, Ohio.

I direct the planning and engagement process for 300+ volunteers, in addition to responsibilities for several community outreach and patient/visitor experiences including pet therapy, pastoral care, student observational learning, art reflections, and the hospital’s Auxiliary organization.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?: My husband and I owned a local chain of Christian bookstores in the Cleveland and Akron area – The Word Christian Resource Centers - for over 10 years.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering/ managing volunteers?: What I enjoy most about my volunteer management role is the opportunity to engage with so many diverse, talented and inspiring individuals, truly making each day different.  I have also learned many life lessons from our volunteers; most importantly that staying active and giving back in some way is so critical to one’s overall health and happiness.
